A bill has passed through both the Senate and the House to loosen up the gambling laws in the state of Florida. If the bill is finally approved the sunshine state will profile as one of the biggest gambling territories in the United States.
For some time now, Florida has taken actions that show the interest of its governors in setting up the conditions to turn the state into a Mecca for gamblers, following the example of Las Vegas and Atlantic City. This law is seen by analysts as the next step in a road that leads to having a complete gambling freedom, with unrestricted access to games such as craps, blackjack, and roulette, which are currently still illegal in the state.
Governor Charlie Crist is already in negotiations with the Seminole Indians who want to run in Florida the same Las Vegas-style slots. Crist might finally give green light to the Seminoles if they agree to be taxed on their operation, something that right now does not happen. The Governor is the only person who can cancel the bill, but it is not expected that he do so, which means that the new law would go into effect the first day of July 2007.
Analyst have said that Florida has all the right conditions to become the new Las Vegas: great weather, a varied nightlife and a lot of senior citizens who love to gamble and spend their money at the casinos. Crist is in favor of using the gambling money for the state's school system.
